Gov. Inslee has announced that $188.1 million of the state of Washington’s share of the CARES Act Coronavirus Relief Fund (CRF) will be allocated to local governments. Of that, $125.9 million will go to cities and counties (in addition to the $297.0 million that was allocated to them in May) and $62.2 million will go to local health jurisdictions.

The state of Washington received $2.167 billion from the CRF. On top of that, King, Pierce, Snohomish, and Spokane counties and the city of Seattle also received direct CRF payments from the federal government. The U.S. Department of the Treasury has suggested that states should distribute 45 percent of their CRF allocations to local governments that did not receive direct payments. (There is not a requirement to do so.)

With the new allocations, the state has allocated 22.4 percent of its CRF share to local governments. It has not yet been announced how much of the new allocations each government will get, but the governor’s office said each county will receive at least $300,000 and each city will receive at least $30,000. (Here’s how much each jurisdiction received of the original $297 million allocation.)

To date, the state has allocated $1.057 billion—about half of its CRF share. (There is $1.111 billion left.) In the chart below, I’ve grouped the allocations loosely by category.
