The third federal aid bill included $14.2 billion for a higher education emergency relief fund, for needs related to coronavirus. The U.S. Department of Education announced yesterday how $12.5 billion of that will be distributed. Of the allocation amounts, half must be used for financial aid grants to students. Department of Education Secretary DeVos said, “We are prioritizing this funding stream in order to get money in the hands of students in need as quickly as possible.”

Here’s the allocation list from the Department of Education. The Chronicle of Higher Education has put the figures in a searchable database here. I’ve pulled the figures for Washington’s institutions, as the tables below show. Funds are available for all of Washington’s public four-year institutions and for the community and technical college system. Additionally, funds are available for private four-year and other institutions. (I don’t have a list of these other institutions to search for, so my table is incomplete. If you’re interested in a particular private school that isn’t listed in the table, you can search for it in the Chronicle’s table.)

The total allocation for Washington’s public schools is $185.3 million, of which $92.7 million must go directly to students. Another $25.4 million will go to four-year private schools in Washington.
