Originally, states and local governments had until Dec. 30, 2020 to use their shares of the federal Coronavirus Relief Fund (CRF). Gov. Inslee has allocated $2.218 billion—$50.6 million more than the state government received from the federal government.

This is based on allocation memos posted by the Office of Financial Management (OFM) to date. (The most recent are dated Dec. 23.) It is likely that OFM will issue amendments to some allocations to eliminate the overdraft. Additionally, the new federal relief package extended the deadline to use the CRF money until Dec. 31, 2021. The governor may decide to hold on to some of these funds for later use, rather than using them for the purposes currently allocated.

I’ve updated our allocation tracker to show all current allocations (even though they sum to more than Washington’s $2.167 billion share). The biggest category is economic support, including $175 million for small businesses and $110.0 million for rent assistance.
