Our friends at Opportunity Washington are out today with a brand-new assessment – called the “Opportunity Index” – of how Washington stacks up against the rest of the country on education, transportation and economic vitality.
In partnership with the Association of Washington Business and the Washington Roundtable, the Research Council conducted a data-driven analysis of performance of all 50 states across three categories: Achieve (education), Connect (transportation) and Employ (economic vitality). Washington state ranks 24th overall. On education, we’re 18th; on transportation we’re 38th (although the transportation revenue package passed earlier this year should help move us up); and on economic vitality we’re 23rd.
So we’re doing OK – but there’s definite room for improvement. Check out the Opportunity Index page for more information.
