Things are moving fast. For now. Then they’re likely to slow down. The quick stuff is the speed of the Senate budget, which was unveiled Wednesday and may go to the floor today, having passed out of committee yesterday. A similarly hare-like pace may be anticipated for the House budget expected next week. Then the tortoise takes over as negotiators from both chambers meet to find a compromise.
Just before noon today, state budget director David Schumacher released a five-page letter expressing concerns with the proposed Senate budget. He’d previously aired some of these issues at AWB’s Lobby Lunch. As Schumacher writes, the issues raised in the letter will become part of the ongoing discussion in the final weeks of the session.
