The economic and revenue forecast council’s monthly Economic & Revenue Update brought more good news today. Here is the key bullet point regarding revenue from the summary:

  • Major General Fund-State revenue collections for the August 11 – September 10, 2013 collection period were $65.0 million (6.0%) higher than the June forecast.

For the three collection months since the forecast was revised in June, collections in total have exceeded the expected amount by $145.1 million. However, the June forecast anticipated several large refunds, payments of which have been delayed. Factoring out these delayed refunds, the positive variance for the three months is $116.1 million. I look for the revenue forecast to be increased by at least this amount when the Forecast Council meets on September 18.
