This evening, the Washington Research Council celebrates its 80th anniversary. The event will feature a lively discussion between Washington Post blogger Jennifer Rubin and the Daily Caller's Mickey Kaus. The discussion will be moderated by TVW president and CEO Greg Lane.
Sure to be a topic of conversation: the recall election in Wisconsin. After Gov. Scott Walker successfully moved to rein in collective bargaining and public employee compensation in 2011, union groups forced a recall election. The legislative battle drew massive union protests. The patchouli populism of the Occupy Movement attracted large crowds and drum circles. Madison became a battleground. Today's vote will widely be seen as a referendum on collective bargaining and public employee union power.
It should be a great discussion.
